About National Center of Oncology Baku

The National Center of Oncology in Baku (Milli Onkologiya Mərkəzi — MOM) is the premier cancer treatment and scientific research institution in Azerbaijan. It is a government-affiliated scientific institute responsible for investigating, diagnosing, and treating oncological diseases, and it handles treatment for more than 90% of all cancer patients in the country. The center has a bed capacity of 1,050, making it one of the largest specialized oncology facilities in the South Caucasus region. The center's clinical capabilities span the full spectrum of oncological care including surgical oncology, medical oncology (chemotherapy), radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, pathological anatomy, and palliative care. The hematology and bone marrow transplantation unit treats leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers. Multidisciplinary tumor boards convene regularly to develop individualized treatment plans for complex cancer cases. Diagnostic infrastructure includes PET-CT, SPECT CT, multi-slice CT, MRI, digital mammography, endoscopic ultrasound, and a comprehensive pathology and cytology laboratory. The radiation oncology department is equipped with linear accelerators for external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy units for internal radiation delivery. The National Center of Oncology collaborates with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and maintains partnerships with leading cancer centers in Europe and Asia for knowledge transfer, training, and clinical trial participation. International patients — particularly from CIS countries, the Middle East, and Central Asia — come to Baku for cancer diagnosis and treatment that combines European-standard care with significantly lower costs compared to Western Europe. Patient coordinators assist foreign visitors with appointment scheduling, interpretation, and accommodation.
