About King Hussein Cancer Center
King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) is the first and only comprehensive cancer centre in the Arab world to hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, established in Amman, Jordan by Royal Decree in 2001 under the leadership of Princess Ghida Talal. The centre traces its origins to 1997 when it opened as Al-Amal (Center of Hope) under King Hussein Ibn Talal's vision for a world-class cancer institution in the region.
KHCC operates as an independent non-governmental, non-profit institution with an annual budget exceeding 50 million and serves patients from over 60 countries. The centre houses all major oncology disciplines under one roof: adult and pediatric medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, haematology and bone marrow transplantation (BMT), interventional radiology, pathology, and nuclear medicine.
Technology at KHCC is at the forefront of oncology: the centre operates one of the region's few Cyber Knife radiosurgery systems, TrueBeam STx linear accelerators for stereotactic radiotherapy and IMRT, PET-CT and SPECT-CT imaging, 3 Tesla MRI with diffusion tensor imaging, and Jordan's first Brain Suite — an intraoperative MRI (iMRI) system for real-time tumour margin assessment during neurosurgery. The bone marrow transplant programme performs over 200 transplants annually for haematological malignancies.
KHCC's pediatric oncology wing is a internationally recognised centre of excellence for childhood cancers, featuring age-appropriate playrooms, psychological support, and a school-in-hospital programme. The centre's survival rates for paediatric ALL and Wilms' tumour rival those of top paediatric cancer centres in North America and Europe.
For international patients, KHCC provides housing through the attached KHCC Outpatient Cancer Centre hotel, translation services in Arabic, English, French, and Persian, telemedicine second-opinion consultations, and social welfare support for patients with financial needs through the King Hussein Cancer Foundation. Jordan's strategic location, cultural familiarity, and Arabic language make KHCC the natural choice for patients from across the Arab world and East Africa.
