About Apollo Proton Cancer Centre

Apollo Proton Cancer Centre (APCC) in Chennai is Asia's first and largest proton therapy centre — a landmark in cancer treatment across the entire Asia-Pacific region. Operating as part of the Apollo Hospitals Group, India's largest private healthcare network, APCC represents the most advanced oncology facility in South Asia. The 150-bed centre is equipped with the IBA C230 Cyclotron, the Proteus Plus proton therapy system, and a complete suite of advanced diagnostic imaging including PET-CT, 3T MRI, and digital pathology platforms. These technologies allow APCC to offer Pencil Beam Scanning (PBS) proton therapy — the most precise form of radiation therapy available — minimising radiation exposure to healthy surrounding tissue. Proton therapy at APCC is indicated for brain tumours, base of skull tumours, spinal tumours, paediatric cancers, head and neck cancers, prostate cancer, breast cancer (especially left-sided, protecting the heart), and orbital tumours. The centre places particular emphasis on paediatric oncology: children's rapidly developing bodies are most vulnerable to radiation side effects, and proton therapy dramatically reduces long-term damage compared to conventional radiotherapy. APCC's multidisciplinary tumour board — comprising medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, neurosurgeons, paediatric oncologists, and pathologists — reviews each patient case to determine the optimal treatment plan. The centre accepts approximately 1,000 international patients annually and provides coordinated accommodation support in nearby hotels. Chennai is India's medical tourism capital — home to the highest concentration of JCI-accredited hospitals in the country, with excellent international flight connections via Chennai International Airport.
